Things to do in Henan
Henan Province is filled with incredible history and sites. There are many unique things to see and do in this province, that visitors always feel like they leave before they have seen enough.
Henan Cuisine:
Developed over thousands of years, the cuisine of Henan are unique. The dishes range from dishes designed for imperial families, to folk snacks. The dishes are selected in accordance with the four seasons, making them very seasonal. Their flavors and aromas are light and delicate.
The most famous dish in Henan is the Luoyang Shui Xi (Luoyang Water Feast). The feast has a reputation as the best feast under the heavens. With a history of over 1,000 years, the feast originated in the Tang Dynasty. The Water Feast includes 24 different dishes, 8 cold and 16 hot, which are accompanies by different soups. It is the soups which give the feast its name. The dishes are served in a particular order to allow the diners taste buds to enjoy unique flavors one at a time. Each dish combines meat and vegetables and can have sour, sweet, salty, or hot flavors.
Soups are an integral part of every Henan meal. There are dozens of varieties of soups, each with their own legends and stories. Each soup has its own unique flavor and are truly delicious.
Peonies:
The national flower of China, and Luoyang, in Henan Province is considered the cultivation center of Peonies. When in bloom, they cover the entire city and the botanical garden at the Dragon Pavilion has thousands on display. The entire city is filled with their fragrance.
