Sichuan Weather
Sichuan has the varied topography and strongly impacted by the Southeast Pacific Ocean Monsoon and the Southwest Indian Ocean Monsoon. It enjoys an alternating weather patterns. Its eastern basin is characterized by a damp climate, while the western plateau and mountain areas have dryer climates depending on altitude, with some areas reaching heights of over 5000 meters.
Annual Average Rainfall: 1,000 mm in the lowlands, 500-700 mm on the plateau area, and 800-1,200 mm in the south area.
Average Temperatures: Sichuan's four seasons are quite distinct. In spring, temperatures range from between 10 and 21.9 °C; In Summer, temperatures average above 22 °C. Autumn temperatures vary between 10 and 21.9 degrees. In winter, the average temperature is below 10 °C. The Western Sichuan plateau areas are quite cool and have an average annual temperature of less than 8 °C. The average temperature is -5 °C in January, 5 to 10 °C in April, 10 to 15 °C in June and 5 °C in October. In fact, Western Sichuan has almost no summer.
Sichuan's southwestern mountainous regions have average annual temperatures of between 15 and 20 °C in valley areas, and 5 and 15 °C in mountain areas. In January, the average temperature is about 5 degrees Centigrade, 10 to 24 degrees in April, 15 to 26 °C in June and 10 to 20 °C in October.
Chengdu Weather and Climate
Chengdu is situated at the western edge of the Sichuan Basin. It is therefore sheltered from northwest winds from Siberia in winter by the Qinling Mountains to the north. Chengdu has a Humid subtropical climate and it is largely mild and humid. The short winter is milder than in the Lower Yangtze because of the sheltering effect of the Qinling. Snow is rare but there are a few periods of frost each winter. The summer is longer, but not as hot as in the "Three Furnaces" cities of Wuhan, Nanjing, and Chongqing in the Lower Yangtze. The average daytime high in July and August is 29°C, with afternoon highs sometimes reaching higher. Chengdu has free-frost period of about 337 days, rainfall is common year-round but peaks in the summer months and the average rainfall of 900-1,300mm per year, annual average humidity is 82%, and th
e sunshine ratio is 28%.
Mt. Emei Weather and Climate
Located within the Subtropical Monsoon Climate Zone, the climate of Mt. Emei bears significant impacts from radiation, air circulation, and particularly from the contour and geographic features. The overall mountain range is characteristic of abundant cloud and mist, rich raindrop and less sunlight. The climate varies significantly with altitude upwards from subtropics, mild temperate, middle temperate, to sub-frigid. The temperature at the top is averagely 14 °C less than that at the foot of the mountain.
Jiuzhaigou Valley Weather and Climate
Jiuzhaigou Valley is noted for its fresh air, with an atmospheric visibility of 50 kilometers. It has lots of sunny days, cool summer and less wind in winter, with favorable conditions for tourism, sightseeing and holidays.
The area has a subtropical to temperate monsoon climate, with a succession of zones cooling with altitude. Valleys are warm and dry, the middle mountain slopes cold and damp. At Nuorilang at 2,400m in the Shuzheng valley the mean annual temperature is 7.3°C, the mean January temperature is -10 °C and the mean July temperature is 16.8 °C. The total annual rainfall there is 761mm but in the cloud forest between 2,700m and 3,500m it is at least 1,000mm. 80% of this falls between May and October as the monsoon moves up the valley giving mild, cloudy, moderately humid summers. Above 3,500m the climate is colder and drier. Snow falls between October and April. Monthly precipitation totals are: January 15mm, February 24mm, March 36mm, April 43mm, May 87mm, June 96mm, July 104mm, August 82mm, September 86mm, October 54mm, November 26mm and December 18mm.

Leshan Weather and Climate
Leshan has a subtropical monsoon moist climate. People here experience the big seasonal differences yearly, warmly and blossoming spring, hot summer, cool colorful fall and cold humid winter without snow. The average temperature here is 17.3 °C, and the yearly sunshine period is 1119.7 hours while the frost-free period lasts 334.5 days. The annual normal rainfall comes to 1390.6mm every year. All of these plus the fertile land enable Leshan to produce tremendous agricultural products such as rice, seasonal fruits, poultries and so on.
Dujiangyan Weather and Climate
Dujiangyan is belong to the inferior subtropical zone with clear four seasons without extreme hot weather in summer (Extreme top temperature is 32℃) and extreme cool weather in winter (Extreme bottom temperature is -5℃. Only in a few years). The precipitation rain fall is abundant and weather is comfortable. The annual average temperature is 15.2℃. The average air temperature of January is 4.6℃, and average air temperature of July is 24.7℃. The annual average rainfall is 1,200 mm, and the annual average nonfrost period is 280 days.
Yading Weather and Climate
The Yading Natural Reserve is influenced by Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, it has the feature of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and Continental climate, belonging to continental monsoonal plateau climate, with long winters and short summers, and an average annual temperature of 12.3'C. It has distinct wet seasons and dry seasons. The best travel seasons are spring and autumn.
