Leshan

Leshan is a prefecture-level city sits on the confluence of the Dadu and Min rivers, the southwestern fringe of the Red Basin in southern Sichuan, about 120 km (75 mi) from Chengdu. It is most famous for its huge riverside cliff-carving of Buddha and nearby Mount Emei; which together are a World Heritage Site.

Leshan Grand Buddha is one of the main attraction to see. The Grand Buddha is a 71 meter (230 feet) high sculpture was carved into the mountain large cliff face by the river that while very busy for transport was claiming the lives and stock of many boats. Besides the Grand Buddha, there are also numerous smaller carvings of various Buddhas on the Grand Buddha Cliff Road. Other than carvings, there are also various temples and shrines scattered about, the beautiful Haoshang bridge, and some wonderful small waterfalls. The Buddha Upon completion of the now largest Buddha in the world the river became safe, and thus Buddha saved "us all".

Mount. Emei is another top sights around Leshan city area and sits at the western rim of the Sichuan Basin. The mountain stands at 3099 meters (10,167 feet), and is associated with Puxian Bodhisattva - a representation of 'Great Practice' and 'Great Virtue'. Ever since Buddhism arrived in China, it has been an important center of refuge, and the mountain contains more than one hundred temples and monasteries. The mountain is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
