Zhang Fei Temple

One of Yangtze River Cruises' onshore excursions, the Zhang Fei Temple was built in honor of General Zhang Fei a general in the Three Kingdoms Period (2100BC-256BC). Originally built over 1,700 years ago, the original temple and location is now under the Yangtze River, due to the rising water from the Three Gorges Dam, but the temple's treasures and statues have been preserved and installed in a reproduction of the original built above the water level. Over 4,500 relics, 127 ancient trees, 103 wood carvings and 178 Steles from the original have been put in the reproduction giving the feeling of the original temple.

According to legend, the temple was built with gold found in the Yangtze River when searching for the severed head of General Zhang Fei after two of his followers killed him. The Jieyi (Sworn Brothers) Hall is a two storey building with calligraphy, paintings and wood carvings located on the first floor and three statues of Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei, the three sworn brothers. On the third floor is a bronze statue of Zhang Fei.
