Three Gorges
Situated on the Yangtze River from Sichuan to Hubei Province, the Three Gorges is famous for its scenery and historical important in China. The gorges are Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge, and Xiling Gorge. Their combined length is 120 kilometers.
Qutang Gorge
The narrowest of the Three Gorges, the Qutang Gorge is 8 kilometers long and is considered the most beautiful of the gorges. The gorge combines narrow canyons with switchbacks. The entrance to the gorge is located between the Chijia and Baiyan Mountains, known as the Kuimen Gate.
Wu Gorge
The middle gorge, Wu Gorge is 45 kilometers long. The mountains on either side of the gorge are known as the Wu Mountains, which gave the gorge its name.
Xiling Gorge
The largest and most famous of the gorges is the Xiling Gorge. Named after Xiling Mountain which is located at the eastern end of the gorge, the gorge is 66 kilometers long and occupies a space almost half the length of the entire Three Gorges.
