Lautau Big Buddha

Polin Monastery is the must-visited site for prayers in Hong Kong; it is also a cultural and natural site popular among tourists. Polin Monastery is located on the Lantau Island of Hong Kong, built in 1924 by three Buddhists. It was originally a small temple; many constructions were added through the history. Giant Buddha was built and set in the temple in 1993 and made a new record. The big Buddha, also called Tian Tan Buddha, is the world's largest seated bronze Buddha Statue. The figure is consisted of 200 pieces of bronze, with a height in 26 meters and weight at 220 ton. It is the world's tallest, outdoor, seated bronze Buddha.

The Giant Buddha is seated on the top of Ngong Ping plateau, in front of the Polin Monastery. Visitors can climb 268 steps to reach the platform where the Buddha is seated. Its eyes, lips and incline of the head show the character of Buddha; its right hand raised, means deliver blessing to all.

Besides the Giant Buddha, there are still other elements of Buddhism that worth a visit; the mountain scenery around also beautiful. Pay a visit and taste the vegetarian lunch prepared by monks!

How to get there:
1) Catch ferry from Central Pier 6 (MTR Hong Kong Station Exit E1. Walk through ifc mall) to Mui Wo, then take bus 2;
2) MTR Tung Chung Station Exit B, then take bus 23 from Tung Chung Town Centre.
