Bifengxia Panda Base
Bifengxia Panda Base is about 19 km from Ya'an City and 150 kilometers from Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province. Covering 60 square kilometers, the base has been long famous for the forest coverage, waterfalls, river and breathtaking landscapes. It is the first scenic spot integrating natural scenic spot and eco-zoo in China, including leisure, vacation, sightseeing, and entertainment.
In Bifengxia, an ecological wild animal zoo was built in 1999. For the safety and development of the captive panda bears, the Chinese government has invested RMB 27.6 million yuan to build a panda base there- the Ya'an Bifengxia Base of China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda which includes panda research center, bamboo forest, panda hospital, panda kindergarten, panda mating and breeding center, panda demonstration center, rear service center etc.
Bifengxia Panda Base was opened to the public in 2003. It is located in the altitude of from 1100m to 1800m and known as the branch of the China Giant Panda Research and Conservation Centre in Wolong. The base now has 68 pandas sharing their life in luxurious villas with accompaniments of air-conditioners, toilets, independent water supply systems and sport areas. The pandas will be returned to nature after they have been given relevant training in simulated wild environments.
Travel Tips
With expressway and high grade road all the way, Bifengxia Panda Base is 19 km to Ya'an downtown and 150 km to Chengdu. Chengdu Xinnanmen Tourist Bus Station has regular bus reach to scenic spot for 2 hours bus driving on the Chengya Expressway.

Ya'an is a sub-tropical monsoon climate and pleasant weather, no cold winter, nor summer heat, with the average annual temperature of 15 centigrade degree, Known as the Rain City, Ya'an rains a lot. It is advisable to travel except for in the rainy season.
The Bifengxia Panda Base offers the panda volunteers very interesting tour programs from 2 days to more than 30 days. They are allowed to work with the scientists and feed the pandas, clean the pandas' houses and record their activities.
