General Stillwell Museum
Chongqing's General Stillwell Museum is dedicated to General Joseph W. Stilwell, an American General who worked as Chief o fstaff in the China Theatre of Operations during World War II. He was Commander-in-Chief of the American military in the China Burma India Theatre.
The museum, which opened in 1992, occupies an area of over 1.2acres. The main building, a three storey house, was the former residence of General Stilwell. It contains an office, two meetings rooms, an adjutant’s room, bedrooms, and a basement. The original furniture, from when the general was in residence, is missing, but period furniture decorate the house, and more than one hundred artifacts, including a uniform worn by the general are exhibited in the museum. In the courtyard of the museum, a monument was placed, on which is engraved a passage of the epigraph written by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. There is also a bust of general Stilwell.
