Located in the former clubhouse building of the Shanghai Race Club, the Shanghai Art Museum is home to the Shanghai Biennial and sits on the edge of People’s Square Park. The Shanghai Art Museum is a non profit institution and has an impact on modern art in Shanghai. It occupies an area of over 2,000 square meters and has over 8,000 collections. The museum carries out studies in art theory and art history. The Shanghai Biennale held every two years is one of China’s most important art events.
