Shanghai History Museum
Located in the base of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower is a remarkable museum. The Shanghai History Museum showcases Shanghai’s history from 1843 to 1949. The museum’s unique displays allows visitors to walk through Shanghai’s history getting a real feel for what life was like in old Shanghai.
The first floor of the museum is dedicated to transportation in old shanghai and has exhibits of old rickshaws, automobiles, and trolleys. The second floor of the museum brings to life the history of Shanghai beginning with 1843 when the city was opened to the Western countries. The exhibits reproduce Shanghai in life size and allow visitors to walk among them down reproduced streets seeing traditional shops and store fronts which display antiques and wax figures in period costumes visiting them. The detail is incredible and it feels as though you have stepped back in time. The museum’s collection includes more than 30,000 artifacts.
