Central Pedestrian Street

Known as the 'Eastern Moscow', Harbin has  been regarded as a unique and exotic city. The most exotic place in Harbin is the Central Street, which is the longest and largest Pedestrian Street in Asia. It was first built in 1898 named “China’s Big Street” and was renamed “Central Street” in 1925. The Central Street now is the most prosperous commercial street in Harbin City, Heilongjiang province.

Nowadays, with a total length of 1,450 meters (1,586 yards), the famous street reflects a variety of European style buildings. In total, there are 71 works, some of which are replicas reflecting the European style of architecture. Examples of the Renaissance through to the Baroque Period as well as the Eclecticism to the Modern School can be seen in 13 of these buildings.

Location
Daoli District, Harbin, China

Reviews from trip advisor
Nice and neat pedestrian street with old Russia architecture. A lot of restaurant and souvenir shops. Best place to shop, eat and photograph. Many restaurant. Nice, cheap souvenires. many many people you can negotiate

A long shopping street with all the usual shops you would expect in China, plus Harbin style street food including some special ice cream and bread flavoured soda! All along the street are ice and snow sculptures, some advertising Coca cola or Moutai and some just for fun like the snow statue of Mr Gangnam style himself! The street was built during the Russian occupation at the beginning of the 20th century so the architecture is quite unlike the rest of China. A good place for a wander.
