Hu Xueyan Mansion
Located in Hangzhou in China’s Zhejiang Province, the Mansion of Hu Xueyan, is a very special site. Located outside of Wangjiang Gate, the mansion houses incredible architecture, antiques, and several gardens.
The mansion was constructed in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) as a private residence for Hu Xueyan, a government official in the Qing Dynasty. The mansion consists of many buildings, corridors, pavilions, and private gardens. The mansion took three years to build and no expense was spared. The craftsmanship of the mansion is incredible and virtually every inch of it is covered in carvings. The mansion is in an incredible state of preservation and every building is filled with antique furniture, making it appear as though visitors have stepped back in time. The many gardens, some of them quite small, were ingeniously designed to take advantage of the space they occupy. Each one is unique in design and atmosphere.
The mansion is rarely visited by people on tours and so it is very quiet. The corridors and buildings are labyrinthine and it is fun to explore them.
